With all the amazing books in print, it's a bit of a fool's errand to create any kind of list for any reason, because it's certain to be comprehensively and embarrassingly incomplete. Nevertheless, I offer here some of the books on my shelf that stand out in my mind. Books that have made me think, made me laugh, made me write. Books I'd heartily recommend to anyone. One was the only book the author ever wrote; others were my introduction to prolific authors whose books I've continued to read for years. They're listed here in no particular order.
